Financial Controller - working for us, a top 100 Accountancy Practice

This opportunity has become available as our current FC (the wonderful Chrissy) is progressing into a new Head of Finance role here at Goodman Jones LLP. This is where you come in, overseeing the day-to-day financial operations of Goodman Jones LLP while reporting directly to Chrissy, with the support of a Finance Coordinator and an Accounts Administrator.

Enough about us... what you'll get to do

Be the Financial Hero:

  • Monthly Management Accounts: You'll create the financial narratives that drive our business, turning numbers into actionable insights. Preparing detailed accounts, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • VAT & Compliance: Keep us on the right side of the law with your impeccable attention to detail, ensuring timely and accurate submission of VAT returns, and maintaining compliance with HMRC regulations.
  • Audit Coordination: Partner with external auditors to ensure our financial story is always clear and accurate. Prepare necessary documentation for seamless audits.

Make an Impact:

  • Financial Analysis: Dive deep into variance analysis and performance metrics, helping shape our business strategy. Analysing financial performance and providing insights to support business decisions.
  • Cash Flow Management: Keep the gears turning smoothly by monitoring and managing our cash flow and financial health.
  • Internal Controls: Your expertise will help safeguard our assets and maintain data integrity.
  • Process Optimisation: We're all about continuous improvement. Bring your ideas while identifying opportunities to streamline financial processes, enhancing accuracy and efficiency.

Collaborate:

  • Interdepartmental Collaboration: Work closely with various departments to support comprehensive financial planning and decision-making.
  • Team Support: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members, fostering a culture of learning and growth.

Since you are currently in a similar role, you likely possess some excellent transferable skills. To help you seamlessly transition into this position and complement our existing team,we are looking for candidates who are :

  • Experienced: You've got experience in a similar financial role with a solid understanding of management accounts, VAT, and financial analysis.
  • Interested in the development of themselves and others: You might have supervisory experience but will most definitely have a passion for supporting the development of others, helping your team grow and excel.
  • Tech-Savvy: Proficient in financial software, especially MS Excel, Dynamics, and Xero.
  • Detail-Oriented: You never miss a beat, ensuring everything is accurate and timely.

Even Better If:

  • You're a qualified accountant: (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with a knack for using financial tools to their fullest.
  • You thrive in a professional services environment: and are always on the lookout for ways to innovate.
  • You have worked within an LLP: you have worked within an LLP and/or a professional services environment in a similar finance role.

  • Hours: 35 hours per week, flexible hours
  • Location: Hybrid (3 days office, 2 days home)
