Reporting to CTO

Purpose of role:

As a Head of Engineering, you will work side by side with the Head of Product where you will define and successfully execute the technical roadmap that supports the product vision and portfolio. You will use continuous improvement methodologies to drive engineering innovation, enhance the developer experience and ensure that we have the best technical platform to support our diverse portfolio of betting products.

You will have a deep technical understanding of software engineering, cloud services, quality metrics, observability, operational processes, code agility leveraging code extensibility principles and be able to work side by side with your engineers to solve technical issues whilst maintaining a strong product delivery focus.

You are a strong people leader, able to inspire, motivate and coach and mentor your teams.

Key responsibilities:

  • You will oversee multiple Engineering Managers and Product Engineering teams ensuring that quality is engineered into the foundations our Products.
  • You will develop and communicate a clear engineering and technical strategy which aligns with the overarching product strategy and our OKRs which, as part of the wider organisation, should encompass the technical integration needs from both sides while fostering a collaborative and iterative evolutionary approach.
  • You will lead organisational level change initiatives to provide beneficial and pragmatic alignment across both organisations utilising enterprise awareness.
  • You will lead, develop, and coach a stellar team of engineering managers and technical leads, guiding them in discovery, prioritization, and execution of our business initiatives ensuring close collaboration with our Product leads.
  • You will ensure that your teams are motivated and productive, achieving real customer and business impact by providing growth opportunities, succession planning, coaching, goal setting and performance management.
  • You will serve as engineering evangelist both internally and externally. Present engineering updates and benefits to our engineering teams, stakeholders and customers.
  • As a data analytics organisation, you will identify growth opportunities via metrics and other data points which you will use to optimize the flow of value and continually drive the evolution of our engineering roadmap to maintain a competitive edge in our industry.

Person Specification

Qualifications
A degree (PhD, MSc, BSc) in a STEM subject or similar provable numerate and quantitative skills

Experience and knowledge Over five years' experience in Engineering Leadership where you have led multiple software engineering teams and you have a demonstrable technical understanding of fast-moving data at scale such as in Sports Betting, Financial Trading, IoT etc.

Skills and competencies Essential:

  • A passion for technical craft and problem solving which you love to impart on others.* Servant Leadership based approach for leading teams.* Demonstrable collaborative approach to problem solving utilising diverse teams.* Worked in an operational role or has a strong operational focus with both a deterministic and probabilistic based approach.* Enjoy growing people and teams via coaching, mentoring and stretch goals.* Strong delivery focus throughout the software development lifecycle driving a standards-based approached based on industry best practices or pragmatic innovation.* Excellent communication skills, you will be just as happy communicating with the C-Level as you are when presenting at external events.* Worked in and have a full working knowledge of a highly regulated environment.

Desirable:

  • Can still write software in multiple programming languages and have your own Github profile.* Strong passion for software craft, software quality and clean code along with the ability to demonstrate best approaches.* Risk based approach for engineering innovation.* A passion for sports with a deep understanding of the rules, strategies used, and the impact individual players have on the performance of the team as whole.

Renumeration: Annual salary (DOE)

Working hours: 35 hours per week
