We have a fantastic opportunity for six Neighbourhood Operative / Grounds Maintenance Operative at Manchester City Council. This is a Full-time Temporary role for the next 3 months with the possibility of extension.

What is the role?

Manchester City Council are looking for six Neighbourhood Operative / Grounds Maintenance Operative to be working outside in Parks, Opens Spaces and Highways verges carrying out hedge cutting, strimming, tree lifting, weeding, and edging in the winter as well.

What are your responsibilities?

  • Effectively and efficiently deliver a wide range of operational services which safeguard residents, visitors, and businesses.
  • Litter bin emptying and picking.
  • If the role extends to the summer, then you will be mowing using machines ranging from pedestrian mowers to ride on mowers.
  • Training will be provided, and so previous experience is not essential for the right candidate but would be preferable.
  • Assist and with the training and development of team members to ensure that staff are equipped to carry out their work to the highest standards in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Undertake duties in a safe and responsible manner, in accordance with established Health and Safety requirements, legislation and City Council policies, practices and procedures.
  • Where necessary use a range of equipment to undertake duties to ensure the environment is effectively and efficiently cleaned and maintained.
  • Ensure that records are completed and maintained with sufficient information and accuracy in line with agreed service standards and timescales.

What skills do you Need?

  • Must have previous as a Neighbourhood Operative/Grounds Maintenance Operative experience.
  • Excellent people skills, as you will be speaking to the public, and other members of staff including managers.
  • Strong IT skills, as you will be updating internal systems with important information using word and excel.
  • Must be physically fit and healthy, as you will be required to lift heavy items.
  • Full UK Driving Licence is not essential but would be preferable.
  • The working hours are Monday to Friday 7.00am – 14.30 pm.
  • Three will be based al Grimshaw Lane Depot (North Manchester)
  • Three will be based at Longley Lane Depot (South Manchester)
