As a specialist mentor, you will offer assistance to students at The University of St Andrews who are encountering mental health challenges.

The role is set to start for the new academic year in September 2024.

Responsibilities:

As a specialist mentor you will be required to do the following when working one to one with students:

  • Help them to achieve an appropriate balance activities of everyday living and academic related tasks
  • Improve organisational skills such as time management
  • Assist students in preparing for their deadlines by breaking down tasks into smaller parts for them
  • Help to manage anxiety and cope with anxiety and stress caused by study related issues and/or everyday living.
  • Help students with reflecting on their own experiences
  • Improve students confidence by building on their existing strengths
  • Assist in preparing students for new experiences which they may be nervous going into
  • Work closely with Randstad ensure any concerns with students are communicated as soon as possible
  • Behave in a confidential and professional manner at all time with students
  • Work closely with Randstad and ensure any concerns regarding students are communicated immediately

Requirements:

  • Must be able to provide face to face support, blended at the least. (If you can only provide remote support, unfortunately, you will be not be selected)
  • Have experience in supporting students with mental health conditions and learning difficulties
  • Aware of university life and complexities of academic studies
  • Relevant degree and qualifications that would help you to support students with mental health problems

Desirable

  • Be an empathetic person who can understand the needs of others
  • Have experience working with individuals with disabilities / learning difficulties
  • Be a reliable and responsible mentor to both students and Randstad
  • Have great organisational and time management skills
  • Be able to work flexible hours
  • BACP or BPS Membership
