Are you passionate about public service and making a difference in your community? The local police force is looking for a dedicated and professional Front Counters Assistant to join our team in Nelson.

Salary: £12.60 per hour (PAYE)
Contract: Interim (3–6 months, with potential for extension)
Hours: Full-time, varied shift pattern (9:00 – 17:00 hrs and 9:15 – 17:15 hrs)

Location: Nelson Police Station

About the Role

As a Front Counters Assistant, you will be the first point of contact for members of the public visiting the police station. You'll play a vital role in safeguarding the public, recording incidents and crimes, and providing essential support to both the public and police colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handle face-to-face enquiries from the public with professionalism and empathy.
  • Record emergency and non-emergency incidents using police systems.
  • Manage crime reports in line with national standards (NCRS, NSIR).
  • Process intelligence reports and validate driving documents.
  • Handle and manage evidence-related property, including weapons and valuables.
  • Support with administrative tasks such as bail records, lost property, and visitor management.
  • Liaise with external agencies and ensure accurate data entry across systems.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience in a customer-facing role, ideally with a customer service qualification.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage sensitive information confidentially.
  • Understanding of Health & Safety, Data Protection, and Equal Opportunities legislation.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Intermediate typing/word processing qualification (e.g., RSA II, ECDL).
  • First Aid trained.
