We believe in better. And we make it happen.

Better content. Better products. And better careers.

Working in Tech, Product or Data at Sky is about building the next and the new. From broadband to broadcast, streaming to mobile, SkyQ to Sky Glass, we never stand still. We optimise and innovate.

We turn big ideas into the products, content and services millions of people love.

And we do it all right here at Sky.

What you'll do:

  • Lead and mentor a team of front-end and back-end engineers, providing technical guidance and support to ensure the reliability and performance of our systems while also promoting skill development and fostering a culture of continuous learning.
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for the SE/SRE function within our Analytics team. Define and uphold SRE best practices, including system reliability, availability, and disaster recovery.
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and management of data infrastructure components, ensuring high availability and optimal performance for data pipelines, storage systems, and data processing frameworks.
  • Own CI/CD pipelines to automate software delivery processes, streamline deployments, and enhance overall development efficiency.
  • Lead incident response and post-mortem analysis to identify root causes and implement preventive measures. Drive continuous improvement to minimize system downtime and performance issues.
  • Develop and maintain robust monitoring and alerting systems to proactively identify potential issues and ensure quick response and resolution to incidents.
  • Drive automation initiatives to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual intervention in the data engineering workflow. Implement effective tooling to streamline processes.
  • Foster effective collaboration with data engineering teams, data scientists, and other stakeholders to understand requirements, assess system needs, and ensure alignment with overall business objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with data security, privacy, and regulatory requirements. Implement best practices for data protection and work with security teams to address vulnerabilities.
  • Conduct capacity planning and scaling exercises to accommodate growing data volumes and changing business needs, ensuring our data systems remain reliable and performant.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for SRE processes, best practices, and system architecture. Facilitate knowledge sharing and seamless onboarding for new team members.
