About the Role:
Macildowie are working in partnership with a large public sector organisation who are seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to lead their Financial Reporting function. As the Head of Financial Reporting, you will be responsible for building a highly motivated, high-performing, and efficient team dedicated to delivering excellence in financial reporting. This is a senior leadership position where you will oversee the preparation and delivery of the Statutory Accounts, including the Whole of Government Accounts and Remuneration Report, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with relevant legislation and accounting standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a high-performing financial reporting team, empowering them to achieve operational excellence.
  • Oversee the delivery of the Statutory Accounts and ensure compliance with legislation and accounting standards.
  • Provide leadership and direction for the production of the Annual Report and Accounts, ensuring accurate and timely financial content.
  • Act as a key source of expert technical advice on financial and management accounts, ensuring the application of IFRS and other relevant regulatory standards.
  • Manage the external audit process, serving as the primary liaison with the National Audit Office (NAO) to ensure audit compliance.
  • Lead the strategic direction of the organization's financial reporting, developing and delivering Financial and Management Accounts aligned to business needs.
  • Oversee the monthly review of accounts, ensuring all balance sheet reconciliations are accurate, and providing detailed insights into income and expenditure movements.
  • Serve as the Business SME for ERP development related to General Ledger and Reporting, ensuring stakeholder requirements are met.
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to financial reporting and internal control, developing appropriate policies and processes as needed.

About You:

You will be a seasoned financial leader with experience in statutory and management reporting. Your ability to manage teams, engage with senior stakeholders, and navigate complex regulatory environments will be critical. You should also be adept at handling external audits and providing strategic financial insight to drive business performance.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent qualification
  • Extensive experience in financial reporting and management accounts
  • In-depth knowledge of IFRS and statutory accounting requirements
  • Strong leadership skills with a proven track record in team development
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Experience managing the external audit process and working with external auditors
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and technical financial expertise

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience working within or with government entities or public sector organizations
  • Familiarity with ERP systems, particularly in relation to General Ledger and reporting functionality
  • Understanding of risk management in financial reporting
