We are seeking a dedicated and inspiring Lead Teacher of Science for KS5 to join our team at a vibrant and dynamic academy. Day-to-day of the role:

  • Implement and deliver a broad, balanced, and differentiated curriculum for KS5 students.
  • Monitor and support the overall progress and development of students.
  • Facilitate and encourage a learning experience that enables students to achieve their individual potential.
  • Contribute to raising standards of student attainment and share the academy's responsibility to provide opportunities for personal and academic growth.
  • Engage in operational and strategic planning, including lesson planning, resource development, and contributing to the departmental plan.
  • Participate in staff development activities, including continuing professional development and the Performance Management Review process.
  • Contribute to quality assurance through monitoring and evaluating the subject area.
  • Manage information effectively, maintaining appropriate records and tracking student progress.
  • Communicate with students, parents, and other stakeholders effectively.
  • Serve as a form tutor to a selected group of students, contributing to the pastoral system.
  • Deliver high-quality teaching, ensuring a motivating and safe learning environment.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Hold QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree.
  • Successful teaching experience at secondary level, ideally including experience in multi-ethnic urban schools and of working in an 11-18 school.
  • Understanding of effective teaching and learning theories and practices.
  • Knowledge of National Curriculum requirements at KS5.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and develop positive relationships with all staff.
  • Good level of ICT skills, ideally including the use of interactive whiteboards.
  • Ability to create a motivating and safe learning environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Leadership and effective time management skills.
  • Ability to motivate students and raise their aspirations.
