HEALTH & SAFETY OFFICER JOB DESCRIPTION:

Health & Safety Officer

– based in Wells, Somerset. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing manufacturing organisation who manufacture and distribute products into high end establishments, among other industries.

Taking responsibility for all

Health & Safety

practices, including compliance, policies, procedures, investigations and overall support for the site. Ideally, you will have had some exposure to / an understanding of the principles of Good Manufacturing Practice

(GMP – ISO 22716)

Essential Skills / Qualifications

  • NEBOSH or IOSH certificate with experience in the manufacturing industry
  • ISO qualifications / standards
  • GMP ISO 22716 - ideal, but not essential

HEALTH AND SAFETY OFFICER, KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Understand and ensure all Health & Safety regulations are enforced and adhered to at all times.
  • Keep up to date with any Health & Safety law changes and communicate relevant updates to senior management.
  • Develop, implement and maintain all Health & Safety policies, procedures and guidelines for the company, as and when any changes or updates are enforced
  • Ensure that staff are trained, and up to date with Health & Safety policies and procedures as required.
  • Alert senior management to any short term or long-term activities or budgets for this area.
  • Oversee and organise external training for staff, i.e. First Aid, Dangerous Goods
  • Perform on-site risk assessments, implement controls and establish safe work systems.
  • Carrying out on-site audits and inspection surveys in line with legislation and implement agreed actions where appropriate.
  • Complete COSHH RA for all chemicals handled on site, and advise on how to deal with the handling and disposal of hazardous substances
  • Investigate incidents which occur on site – prepare and complete accident reports and provide actionable advice, as required.
  • Provide guidance on safety equipment and the safe installation of new machinery
  • Undertake site call outs for alarm and biomass boiler
  • Complete Health & Safety inductions for all new employees, and continual refresher training for existing staff.
  • Promote a safe working environment in line with policies on Health and Safety, highlighting any significant deficiencies to the line manager.
  • Other activities and tasks as required within this remit

Our client is ideally looking to employ a Health & Safety Officer on a full time, permanent basis, but will also consider part time / flexible hours, for the right person.

SKILLS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • NEBOSH or IOSH certificate with experience in the manufacturing industry
  • GMP ISO 22716 – Good Manufacturing Practice – this would be ideal, but not essential as training can be provided
  • Previous experience in a similar Health & Safety / Regulations and Compliance role is essential.
  • A good team player, who is confident managing your own work schedule
  • Excellent communication skills – you will be working closely with employees, senior management and external stakeholders on a daily basis.
