Job Title: Assistant Planner

Annual Salary: £35,000

Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time (40 hrs/week)

Job Description:

We are seeking a motivated individual with a proactive approach to join our team as an Assistant Planner. You will be a key contributor to our collaborative environment, utilizing your experience, enthusiasm, and skills to enhance project efficiency and ensure we meet and exceed expectations.

This role is ideal for someone with experience in construction delivery or someone eager to begin a career in planning. You'll have the chance to be involved in high-profile civil engineering projects, supporting the planning and execution of these projects from start to finish.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in all stages of project life cycles, from inception to completion.
  • Provide planning support to the Senior Planner across regional projects.
  • Assist in maintaining planning standards and ensuring adherence to planning and control procedures.
  • Support site-based teams in creating and managing short-term lookahead programmes.
  • Assist in the preparation of progress reports and variance analysis.
  • Identify and report on programme delays, highlighting potential recoveries.
  • Participate in project meetings, contributing to discussions on scheduling, sequencing, and resource allocation.
  • Initially, you will support up to 8 live construction projects, each valued up to £5m.

Key Measures & Targets:

  • Adherence to all set deadlines.
  • Achieve recovery of up to 90% of time lost in live projects.
  • Agreement on up to 80% of project programmes.
  • Contribute effectively to programme development.

Key Relationships:

  • Internal team members and the wider community.
  • Clients and supply chain partners.

Person Specification:

The ideal candidate will meet the following criteria:

  • Solid understanding of construction sequencing and project delivery, gained in a site-level role.
  • Proficiency in computer literacy with a willingness to learn multiple planning software packages.
  • Experience with industry-standard software such as Primavera P6, Asta Powerproject, or Microsoft Project is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of project delivery in the water industry and NEC forms of contract is beneficial.
  • A construction-related qualification is preferable but not essential.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing project requirements and deadlines.
