What you'll do:

The Operational Financial Controller supports the CFO and COO in achieving business objectives through proactive management of the financial affairs of the business unit including:

Overseeing month-end process for operational business:

  • Reporting budgets and forecasts, coordinating the budgeting and forecasting process with support from across the finance function
  • Advanced warnings to the CFO and COO of potential issues
  • Ensuring accuracy, integrity and compliance with the organisation's UK and US accounting policies

Audit

  • Audit preparation and management, including liaising with internal and external auditors, working to ensure all information is accurate and available
  • Ensuring SOX controls are adhered to throughout the year, with extra focus at quarter ends
  • Ownership of monthly contract/projects review process, in line with company policies

Fleet

  • Review and management of under/overbills
  • Management of Head of Fleet, and indirectly the Fleet team
  • Implementation of a Fleet strategy, which supports key safety, efficiency and operational requirements
  • Managing delivery of initiatives including electric car salary sacrifice and telematics

Other

  • Overall responsibility for the Operational Finance Function, including partnering with the COO, and reporting to the CFO with transparency and clarity
  • Working to ensure alignment with the CFO and/or Executive Leadership Team
  • Membership of the Operational Leadership Team, representing the finance function at a senior level within the operational space
  • Efficiency and cost focused to ensure all spend is VFM.
  • Participating in bid and tender activity as required, to ensure that allowances for statutory costs are accurate
  • Control of customer contract set-up and budgeting in the company's financial reporting systems.
  • Ability to lead Projects within the finance function
  • Managing the insurance return on an annual basis

Person Specification

Who you'll be:

  • Qualified accountant (ACCA or CIMA), or in progress at advanced stages (e.g. finalist)
  • Demonstrable leadership experience - able to motivate and manage a team, whilst delivering as an individual, and through others
  • Experience of a high-volume service environment is essential
  • Contract based accounting experience
  • High levels of Excel proficiency
  • Experience of IFS is preferable but not essential
  • Good commercial acumen/awareness
  • Good communication skills - at all levels, candid and collaborative
  • Flexible, adaptable approach
  • Team player
  • Self-starter
