The Royal Company of Merchants of the City of Edinburgh (The Merchant Company) is a charitable organisation for business and professional people which has been enriching the life of Scotland's capital for more than 340 years. Over the years, it has evolved into a membership organisation with a wide range of activities.
The Company and its institutions as a group form one of Scotland's largest charitable organisations, and delivers charitable benefits through education, enterprise, and in helping the elderly, young and frail. It is also an active membership organisation, which provides social and personal development opportunities through a variety of initiatives and events. The Company plays a central role in the civic life of Edinburgh and is Scotland's pre-eminent livery company.
Following the development of their new Strategic Plan, we are looking for a Communications Executive, to work closely with the new Membership, Events & Communications Manager. Coming in at the earlier stages of their strategic plan, you'll see some great results in the work you do!
Key responsibilities of the role include:
- Creating and owning content across a variety of channels
- Devising a social media plan with regular content and community growth
- Membership communications - providing regular updates via email, newsletter and direct mail
- Ensuring content on website is kept up to date keeping with brand/tone of voice
- Supporting the planning and delivery of events
- Creating and developing a library of marketing collateral
- Developing and maintaining a CRM with regular reporting
This role is well-suited to someone with a year or two under their belt within a communications role and looking for the opportunity to be part of something special. You'll have had exposure across a variety of channels - particularly social media, web and email - and be coming with a creative mindset, always looking at ways to improve and do things better. Excellent planning skills are a must here. With various projects, time management is therefore going to be key. Some exposure to events would be a bonus but by no means essential.
This is a full-time, permanent role and will be office-based from our lovely location on Hanover Street with some out of hours working at events (with time given back in lieu).
