SEND Teaching Assistant

Five Education is supporting a small special school in Redbridge. We require candidates with experience supporting children with Speech, Language, and Communication Needs (SLCN) and SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health needs). The ideal candidates for this school will be positive, proactive, and patient.

Some of the children will have additional needs including Complex Needs and SpLD (Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, and Dyscalculia).

Responsibilities and duties:

  • Deliver targeted interventions that support Special Educational Needs
  • Support child in class to access teaching content and engage in lessons
  • Experience managing challenging behavior in a calm and patient manner
  • Ensure child's safety and welfare is maintained
  • Liaise with the class teacher and/or SENDCo

Essential Criteria

  • Previous experience supporting Special Educational Needs in young people
  • Understanding of a range of different Special Educational Needs
  • Ability to build and maintain trusting relationships
  • Remain calm under pressure
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt according to changing needs

Desirable Criteria

  • Previous experience working in mainstream and/or specialist settings
  • Additional educational qualifications
