The Opportunity: Nurturing Emotional Well-being

This is a vital full-time opportunity for a SEMH Teaching Assistant at a "Good"-rated primary school in Brixton. You will provide dedicated support to pupils with diverse Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs, collaborating with teachers to foster a safe and enabling learning environment. This ongoing position has strong potential for permanency.

Your Role: Key Contributions to Emotional Development

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, your key contributions will include:

  • Providing direct classroom support to pupils, either one-on-one or in small groups, with a strong emphasis on emotional regulation and behavioural support.
  • Implementing strategies to de-escalate challenging situations and promote positive coping mechanisms.
  • Fostering positive relationships with pupils, building trust and encouraging communication.
  • Assisting with the delivery of tailored interventions and activities to support pupils' emotional and social development.
  • Liaising effectively with teaching staff and external professionals, offering insights into pupil well-being and assisting with pastoral care.

What We Require: Essential Qualifications & Skills

To thrive in this role, you'll need:

  • Demonstrable experience as a Teaching Assistant, specifically supporting pupils with SEMH needs or challenging behaviours.
  • Understanding of various SEMH conditions (e.g., ADHD, ASC, anxiety, attachment difficulties).
  • Experience in de-escalation techniques (training like Team Teach, MAPA, or similar is highly desirable).
  • The ability to calmly and effectively manage various classroom situations.
  • A valid enhanced DBS check or the willingness to obtain one.
