Qualifications: Relevant teaching qualifications and certificates

Experience: Prior teaching experience.

Role Overview: Teaching and monitoring curriculum activity within a designated part of the Academy, working with young people, acting as a tutor or key worker as assigned

Purpose of Job Role

  • Teach to the highest standards with efficient organisation skills
  • Develop knowledge and understanding of specific young person needs to ensure teaching is engaging and effective
  • Act as a tutor or key worker to designated classes or young people

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach a broad, balanced, and relevant curriculum, ensuring differentiation to meet the specific needs of young people
  • Contribute to raising standards of achievement and maximising student attainment
  • Participate in the preparation of young people for public examinations and end of Key Stage assessment
  • Monitor, assess, and report progress of individual young people and class groups, ensuring personalised and effective intervention where appropriate
  • Plan and deliver high-quality lessons, demonstrating excellent knowledge of core concepts across key stages
  • Contribute to the department's improvement plan and its implementation
  • Operate appropriate systems of young people management in line with sector and whole Academy policies
  • Be a member of the relevant curriculum group
  • Participate in regular review and monitoring of curriculum delivery
  • Participate in sector meetings and whole Academy activities
  • Maintain continued personal professional development
  • Manage any physical and financial resources allocated, giving reports as requested, ensuring health & safety at all times
  • Develop and maintain effective communication within the Academy and with parents, schools, and relevant agencies
  • Communicate and consult with the parents of young people assigned for teaching
  • Promote and role model the staff code of conduct at all times
  • Promote and adhere to all current Academy policies at all times
  • Ensure Teacher Standards are achieved successfully

Other Responsibilities

  • Take personal responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people
  • Promote reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills
  • Undertake and participate in relevant CPD and appraisal arrangements
  • Follow all organisational systems and procedures
  • Abide by and adhere to all academy policies and practice including health and safety
  • Support and promote diversity and equality of opportunity for all
  • Follow data protection procedures and treat confidentially any personal, private, or sensitive information about individual young people, staff, and/or associated organisations
  • Promote and support inclusive practice
  • Adhere to Health and Safety at all times
  • Promote the agreed vision and aims of the Academy
  • Set an example of personal integrity and professionalism in line with the staff Code of Conduct
  • Teach Personal Development as required
  • Work across JBA as the needs of the Academy dictate
  • Perform other duties as determined by the line manager, Vice Principal, or Principal
