Finance Manager

We are seeking a Finance Manager to oversee and manage the financial operations of our institution. This role involves supporting the production of accurate and timely monthly management accounts, managing departmental budget reports, and ensuring compliance with statutory and legal requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial management within an educational or similar setting.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Support the production of monthly management accounts, including narrative on performance to budget.
  • Manage departmental budget reports, liaise with budget holders, and proactively monitor department spending.
  • Report on the school's assets and liabilities.
  • Assist with the production of statutory accounts, audit files, and returns for DfE, Charity Commission, and Companies House.
  • Oversee Gift Aid claims and undertake financial analysis as requested.
  • Prepare annual and 3-year budgets in consultation with the School Business Manager.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records and ensure compliance with the school's financial procedures.
  • Manage monthly payroll, administer salary sacrifice schemes, and ensure compliance with pension legislative requirements.
  • Maintain cash and banking records, oversee BACS payments, and manage cash flow.
  • Support contract management, procurement activities, and asset management.
  • Supervise the finance and procurement officer and school receptionist, ensuring effective team operation and compliance.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in financial management, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Experience managing payroll, pensions, and compliance with financial regulations.
  • Proficiency in using financial software and systems.
  • Excellent organisational and leadership skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Relevant qualifications in finance, accounting, or related fields.
