Head of Platforms & Infrastructure Operations Manager

The Platforms and Infrastructure Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, maintenance, and continuous improvement of Aspen's IT platforms and infrastructure. This role ensures the stability, security, scalability, and performance of the infrastructure, enabling seamless and efficient operations that support the business's goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to functional strategy development and prioritises the operational deliverables and activities of team to support delivery of overall business targets.
  • Manages tactical plan and provides support to others to achieve positive results for the business in line with strategy.

Policy, Process and Procedures

  • Oversee and prioritize the planning, organization, direction and tracking of all major team deliverables.
  • Report to management on the Platforms & Infrastructure team activities.
  • Interacts with Senior IT and Business leadership around the performance of the services, status of major incidents and reporting on service improvement initiatives.
  • Provides hands on technical expertise, senior level technical guidance to staff, project leaders, and other teams as necessary.
  • Regularly monitors and reviews the team's capacity with an enterprise view of risks, actions, issues, and decisions tracking lens, to ensure timely, cost effective, and quality outcomes.
  • Ensure that production acceptance documentation is created, reviewed, and updated to consistently reflect the environment.
  • Represent the IT Operations team at service reviews, vendor performance reviews and other appropriate operational forums such as change advisory boards.

Environmental Awareness/Customer Focus

  • Develops positive, open and constructive relationships with key stakeholders, working in partnership to ensure the service provided meets current and future needs, managing expectations as necessary.
  • Defines and leads team who own relationship management with each service line to ensure close alignment of technology products & initiatives with strategic business priorities during the project in-take and governance process.
  • Manage relationships with appropriate 3rd parties to ensure delivery of a quality and cost-effective service.
  • In partnership with the business, sets and meets performance targets for speed, efficiency, and quality of service.
  • Maintains an awareness of relevant technical and legislative changes as well as industry best practice to ensure dynamic and compliant service provision.

Technical Performance

  • Ensure scalability, performance, and resilience of the platform, including adequate backups, disaster recovery, ensuring the processes to respond to and resolve to incidents are defined and resourced 24x7 given the nature of a global platform.
  • Participate in the design of infrastructure solutions working alongside Architects and service domains (e.g., Wintel, Database, Storage, Networking) to ensure that initial and anticipated future business requirements are represented.
  • Oversee and monitor the Infrastructure and Cloud services to ensure that strategically important data and mission critical systems receive the highest levels of protection.
  • Be accountable for the quality of service and performance of the team. Be responsible for the delivery of services within relevant Service Level Agreements and KPIs. Act as an internal escalation point for operational or security incidents.
  • Make budgetary reports and recommendations as appropriate to existing and planned infrastructure and platform initiatives.
  • Demonstrate and promote security best practices and risk management activities in conjunction with the senior IT team, develop and enforce the organization's Information Security strategy across the respective technology domains.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of an effective Disaster Recovery schedule in accordance with IT controls testing and validation.

People Management

Skills & Experience:

  • Experience working within a regulated industry, with a strong understanding of industry-specific compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience in manging and overseeing IT operations in a hybrid environment.
  • Proven hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, including management of Azure services, virtual machines, storage solutions, networking, and security configurations.
  • In-depth experience with VMware infrastructure, including ESXi hosts, vCenter Server, vSphere, and vSAN.
  • Experience with Terraform to automate infrastructure deployment and management.
  • Experience with cloud migration strategies, hybrid cloud environments, and cloud-native applications.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and mentor a team of IT professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and staying current with emerging technologies and industry trends.
  • Excellent communication skills - both written and oral.
  • Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent people management and relationship skills to manage between sometimes conflicting priorities.
  • Strong customer orientation skills and ability to proactively manage customer expectations.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Commercial acumen - ability to negotiate with external suppliers to achieve desired results.
  • Resource and budget management.
