Connect2Luton are excited to recruit a Maintenance Technician on behalf of Luton Borough Council.
Main purpose of position:
To work within a team of professional and technical staff to respond to service priorities in order to contribute to the effective operation and smooth service delivery of the Parks & Countryside Service across a range of external and internal infrastructure.
As a Maintenance Technician , you will be responsible to:
- Implement timely action identified through play facilities inspections and inspections of park infrastructure to ensure the safety of the council's play/fitness facilities and other items of infrastructure. Using appropriate specialist equipment (welding, abrasive wheels and other ancillary power tools), undertaking dynamic risk assessments, repair, maintenance and decoration to ensure compliance to the appropriate UK and European Standards.
- Install, maintain and clean park infrastructure, including among other things furniture and signage throughout the Borough's public parks and open spaces.
- Undertake and record regular safety and condition inspections of the open environment, park infrastructure including paths, bridges and play provision as required. Using initiative, technical judgement to complete dynamic risk assessment to immediately initiate emergency works to ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act and British & European standards.
- Undertake daily routine safety and maintenance checks ensuring that all vehicles, machinery and equipment used in performance of the role are well maintained, kept clean and at all times are safely locked up or stored to ensure that they are protected from exposure to risk, damage, loss or theft.
- In the performance of the duties ensure that parks/areas of work are left secure with barriers locked and ensure that all information records are completed on time and accurately
- Provide technical information and work with others to prepare costed and deliverable work programmes in relation to both cyclical works and to ensure compliance with external inspections.
Skills and Experience:
- Demonstrable experience of undertaking work of an engineering or general handyperson nature
- Demonstrable experience in the use of a range of hand and portable/fixed power tools
- Some experience of undertaking playground equipment or similar maintenance
- Able to prioritise and organise workloads to meet heavy and sometimes conflicting service demands, targets and deadlines
- Able add, subtract, divide and multiply and to calculate quantities and linear measurements
- Ability to understand and apply the requirements of policies and recognised standards and complete accurate inspection records
- The ability to demonstrate a good understanding of the latest health and safety legislation related to the post
- Able to walk across often uneven ground whilst undertaking duties
- Full valid driving licence to transport employees and equipment and to operate other associated vehicles and machinery
