SEN Tutor

Posted by Asend Limited.

ASEND tuition supports SEND pupils and continues their learning while they cannot access school or don't have a school place. We are looking for an SEN Tutor with experience in early learning and communication to support an autistic pupil in Reading to build on his current knowledge and understanding.

What ASEND Tuition Is

We are looking for inspirational tutors to support children and young people with SEND in Reading. We support pupils with SEND who are not attending school for a number of reasons including Mental Health issues, or lack of a suitable school place. We aim to prepare them for a return to mainstream or special school while they are waiting for it.

We tutor pupils of all ages face-to-face within school times and in a range of settings including homes, schools, community centres and out in the community. Our tuition is completely pupil-focused and can target developing early learning, following an academic curriculum, providing emotional support or developing life skills. We need a wide range of tutors to support our pupils to meet their specific needs and ensure good progress. We work very hard to match each tutor with pupils who can most benefit from their skills and expertise.

About The Pupil

ASEND is looking for an experienced tutor to support a 12-year-old pupil. He has been diagnosed with Autism, ADHD, and Epilepsy. Communication can be challenging for him, but he has the ability to use single words and short phrases in English and other languages. He joined a school last year but faced difficulties in adjusting but one-to-one tuition is proving to work very well for him. He takes great joy in playing with Lego, wooden blocks, small world characters, and even singing along to his favourite CBeebies songs and nursery rhymes. He has a great love for cars and engages in drawing, playdough, and water play which allows his imagination to flourish.

We are searching for an experienced tutor who is both ASD-aware and can teach in a trauma-informed way. It would be beneficial to have some experience or awareness of the TEACCH curriculum, or putting in extra support for communication, as well as being able to establish clear boundaries, and provide dedicated support for emotional regulation. The use of visuals such as Now and Next boards, will be important in assisting his learning process. Visual and gestural prompts will facilitate his communication and foster an environment of understanding and creativity.
