Purpose of the Role:

The Group Head of Major Bids is responsible for directly supporting and manging all major bids as well supporting individual sales teams on smaller bids and customer tenders. The role is accountable for pricing and estimating, bid management, co-ordinating bid writing, bid production, legal diligence and submissions. The individual will be a key member of the Commercial leadership team responsible for supporting the scaling the organic growth of the business through successfully delivering major wins through high quality bids/proposals and competitive pricing.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Directly responsible for managing a small team of specialists including a dedicated Bid Manager, Senior Estimator and a Bid administrator.
  • All elements of Bid management including liaising and building a relationship with the client, project management and co-ordination of the bid, content management, bid writing, bid production, support for PQQs, bid tracking and implementation of a bid management system.
  • Pricing and estimating (including the management of a dedicated pricing/estimating analyst - building consistent and effective pricing and estimating tools to support the sales team deliver pricing to clients. Working closely with finance to validate cost assumptions and ensure consistency in pricing approach. Support all major bid activity with bespoke customer pricing based on core pricing principles.
  • Liaising with Chief Legal Officer to ensure appropriate diligence of terms and conditions and negotiation on any unfavourable key terms ensuring contracts are balanced and signed with the appropriate governance.
  • Ensure appropriate framework and process in place for major national bids supporting seamless handover, mobilisation and implementation into operations and delivery.
  • Support and use of CRM tool (when introduced) to ensure pipeline is accurate and up to date and customer information is correctly recorded.
  • Delivery, implementation and ongoing development of bid management tool to better manage major bids and support smaller bids across the team.
  • Support on reporting, analysis and special projects for the CCO and the wider commercial team. Preparation of documents to support key governance meetings (MBRs, Change Boards, ESG group etc.)
  • Close collaboration with Sales, Finance and Operations to orchestrate successful outcomes across all bids and tenders (directly and indirectly managed)

About You:

Experience

  • Extensive experience of managing large and complex Bids (ideally in a relevant business sector)
  • Pricing experience and ability to build pricing tools and systems in a Grounds Maintenance, Plant Display, Pest Control and Gritting environment
  • Understanding of and development of end to end sales processes to optimise full sales lifecycle
  • Comfortable working at C-suite level
  • Experience of management and exploitation of CRM systems (preferably Salesforce or Microsoft Dynamics)
  • Understanding and experience of dealing with business contracts
