SEN Teaching Assistant

September 2024 - SEN Teaching Assistant required to work with a small group of KS1/KS2 students in an alternative provision at a Hornchurch School.

This is an exciting opportunity to work within the dynamic setting of a Special Needs unit with a range of Learning Difficulties. An awareness of communication support such as non-verbal communication (i.e PECS/ Makaton, Flash Cards, and Attention Autism) would be an advantage.

Monday to Friday, 8.30am - 3.30pm ( Term time only with additional holiday pay)

SEN Teaching Assistant Role & Qualification:

  • To check and prepare your duties and resources for the day before students arrive.
  • Attend staff de-briefing meetings as necessary
  • To be aware of routines and safeguarding guidance
  • To support the students learning and daily routines
  • To collaborate with staff for group activities
  • To keep work areas well organised both during and at the end of the day
  • To assist with the student's personal care as and if needed
  • Experience and knowledge of working with Special Needs
  • To have an understanding of working with non-verbal students and strategies to develop this area of SEND.
  • To have an understanding of PECs, Makaton, Flash Cards and Attention Autism.
  • A motivation and energetic passion for working with Special Needs children and developing skills to facilitate this
  • The ability to reflect on own behaviour to ensure teams are strong and working together to meet the needs of the child
  • Calm, controlled and effective communication and be considerate to children and adults within the school
  • Ability to contribute constructively within a team and understand your roles and responsibilities within the setting
  • A high level of professionalism and the ability to distinguish personal and professional boundaries in school related relationships both in and outside of the school
  • Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant or Care qualification.
