Robertson Bell is proud to announce our partnership with an esteemed educational institution as they seek a Tax Accountant for a permanent position. In this dynamic role, you will have the opportunity to work under the guidance of a seasoned manager, access a multitude of development avenues, and assume diverse responsibilities encompassing various tax matters.

In this Tax Accountant role, you will:

  • Be responsible for training one newly appointed staff member, including line management responsibilities, with a focus on cultivating a supportive and positive work environment.
  • Support in preparing VAT returns and ensure compliance is correct within the system, including reviewing and correcting coding, and providing training to staff members across the organisation.
  • Manage and resolving help desk queries from various business areas on a daily basis, requiring you to research complex inquiries related to international collaborations and an increasing workload from international students.
  • Produce reports and quarterly returns for the organisation, review returns for its subsidiaries, and ensure compliance with legislative changes through rigorous review processes.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • ATT qualification or equivalent in accountancy or tax, with preference for candidates with relevant experience
  • Strong knowledge of VAT, both on the accounting and technical side; ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities
  • Experience with partial exemption, capital goods schemes, imports, exports, and international tax exposure desirable; familiarity with corporation tax is advantageous
  • A background working within a tax orientated role within education, large international organisations, or within accountancy firms. However, experience dealing with complex VAT returns is a must have
  • Have a thorough understanding of VAT and have experience providing advice relating to VAT to non-financial stakeholders
