Assistant Accountant, growing SME business, Near Bedford, to £40,000 + Excellent Benefits

My client a well established SME Business is currently recruiting a full time permanent Assistant Accountant to join their busy, friendly team at their offices on the outskirts of Bedford.

As Assistant Accountant you will work as a key member of the Finance team taking full responsibility of the sales ledger function, purchase ledger control account reconciliation, bank reconciliation fixed assets register, nominal ledger reconciliation and support the month end account preparation up to trial balance stage. You will assist the management accountant in preparing month end and year end accounts and deputise in their absence. You will also support annual audits and the preparation of the statutory account.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Prepare month end account up to trial balance stage
  • Posting and reconciliation of petty cash, company credit card accounts, staff expenses claims etc
  • Bank reconciliation on a daily basis
  • Preparation of supplier payment runs
  • Reconciling supplier statements and investigating discrepancies
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly payroll
  • Preparation of quarterly VAT Returns
  • Assisting with month end closing and the annual audit process as required
  • Balance sheet reconciliation
  • Assist with the preparation of annual budgets and forecast
  • Assist with cash flow planning and foreign currency monitoring
  • Control Account reconciliations
  • Raising sales ledger invoices and quotations
  • Processing grants claims in line with grant contract agreement
  • Assist and support the team in USA as and when required
  • Taking in deliveries and processing accordingly as required
  • Maintenance of the fixed asset register, Accrual and Prepayment schedule
  • Comfortable answering the main business telephone as required
  • Help with the distribution of incoming post as required
  • Assisting with any ad-hoc duties as and when required, including general business admin tasks to support the wider finance and admin team.

This is a great role for a candidate who is able to work on their own initiative, holds previous experience working in a similar role, has good attention to detail and strong Excel skills and a confident communicator. The Accounts Assistant will be office 100% based, working closely with the Management Accountant
