Retail Manager

Summary

We've got a unique opportunity to lead the retail operation at both Batemans and Bodiam Castle

As our Retail Manager for both properties, you'll play an important part in helping people enjoy their day. You'll be generating crucial funds for the National Trust to invest in protecting and caring for places, so people and nature can thrive. What it's like to work here

Reporting to the Area Manager, you'll be leading a small team of Retail Team Leaders, Retail Assistants and Retail Volunteers at both properties. You'll be part of the leadership team at Batemans/Bodiam and will work closely with the General Manager and the wider team, actively involved in making decisions that affect the whole place.

This role includes duty management on a rota basis and is a dual site role.

What you'll be doing

Your focus every day will be on your customers: going out of your way to make sure they're having their best possible day. You'll lead your team from the front, encouraging them to speak to people and listen to them also inspiring them, so that everyone who buys something knows just what a difference their contribution, however small, will make to the work of the Trust in protecting nature, beauty and history.

You'll set stretching targets for the team and work together to achieve these through the highest standards of customer service and presentation of retail products.

You'll also ensure that our locally sourced and property theme products are relevant and available for visitors, as well as looking for new products.

There is the opportunity to work with the events team, to link retail products to exhibitions, as well as hosting experiential retail events.

Who we're looking for We'd love to hear from you, if you're:

  • an experienced retail manager, familiar with standard processes (including selling, merchandising, space management, stock control, risk)
  • skilled in coaching, developing and leading teams
  • experienced in managing rotas and recruiting staff
  • adept at getting maximum sales out of a retail outlet
  • A driver with a full UK driving licence
