Join our Finance team as an Assistant Finance Business Partner and contribute to our vision of creating a prosperous, well-connected, safe, inclusive, and creatively sustainable West Yorkshire. This role is crucial in providing strong financial governance and control, facilitating the effective delivery of our aims.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Produce consolidated monthly management accounts, identifying risks and opportunities, and providing accurate and timely financial figures suitable for Directors and internal team meetings.
- Actively contribute to the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes for relevant Directorates, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and business planning processes.
- Provide detailed financial analysis to support the monitoring of financial performance across a complex portfolio of funding programmes.
- Prepare and oversee Directorate(s) annual budgets and quarterly forecasts, working closely with budget holders to ensure robust, affordable, and deliverable financial plans.
- Offer financial analysis support during the annual statutory audit cycle and for statutory returns.
- Oversee budget management for both revenue and capital plans, providing constructive challenge and support to Directorates.
- Develop and deliver financial training for key stakeholders within the Directorate(s) to ensure compliance with Corporate financial policies.
- Maintain high standards of governance and financial control within the Directorate(s) to ensure public funds are safeguarded and utilised efficiently.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- A-Level education or equivalent relevant experience.
- Practical experience in a similar role, preferably within a Local Authority environment.
- Part-qualified CIMA / CCAB (CIPFA, ACCA, ICAEW, ICAS, ICAI) preferred.
- Strong understanding and experience of financial controls and accounting.
- Proven ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to foster good working relationships across the organisation.
