Senior Payroll Specialist

My client, a prestigious education provider, are looking for a senior payroll specialist to join their payroll team, reporting into the payroll manager and will supported by payroll administrators. You will run the end to end payroll process ensuring all employees are accurately recorded in the payroll system.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To ensure that wages and salaries are paid accurately in accordance with monthly payroll deadlines (including auto-enrolment deadlines);
  • To ensure the team are executing efficient administration of all elements of payroll including Tax and NI calculations, statutory maternity, paternity, adoption and sickness payments, student loan and other deductions, taxable and non-taxed benefits and other expenses;
  • To understand the terms & conditions of staff who have protected contractual provisions under TUPE regulations, ensuring that employees are paid correctly in line with their terms & condition;
  • To continuously improvement and develop processes to support efficiency and prevent errors.
  • To keep up to date with current legislation necessary for the running of the payroll and pensions (Minimum Wage, SSP, SMP, Student Loans etc.).
  • To ensure accurate submission of internal & external (e.g. HMRC) month-end and year-end reports by the due deadlines;
  • To ensure that the auto-enrolment processes are efficiently administered in accordance with legislation and the requirements of the scheme provider;
  • To ensure that payments are made to pension providers on an accurate and timely basis and that all pension scheme reporting and administration requirements are met;
  • Support the payroll function with new acquisitions in-house in a timely manner and with minimal disruption;
  • Work collaboratively within the team, being an SME for all payroll queries/processes.
  • Maintain good working relationships through effective communication with colleagues and other third-party providers, including HRMC.
  • Organize and prioritize the teams daily work flow, remaining flexible to accommodate ad hoc, payroll sensitive tasks.

How you will succeed

  • Accurate payments made to employees with correct and appropriate deductions;
  • Maintaining a short time period between payroll cut-off, checking and final payment;
  • Full compliance with HMRC and no penalties or interest incurred for non-compliance or late payments;
  • Swift query resolution with employees and managers

Experience Required

  • Recognised Payroll qualification (CIPP Diploma in Payroll Management or equivalent) or willingness to work towards
  • Knowledge of computerised payroll systems involving all aspects of payroll;
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and manage the teams daily work flow
  • Minimum of two years' payroll experience, ideally in running multiple payrolls
  • Strong time management/organisational skills;
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of payroll including statutory legislation
  • Excellent analytical, time management and problem solving skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office particularly Excel; (PIVOT, LOOKUP)
