Temporary Administrator

Durham University is looking for a Temporary Administrator to work onsite at their Palatine Centre location for 4 days per week (Tuesday to Friday, 9am-5pm) for approx. 3 months (in the first instance).

The Role and the Department

The role is in the Vice-Chancellor's Office which sits at the heart of the University's administration, providing support to the Vice-Chancellor and Warden. Reporting to the Executive Officer, but also working closely with the Personal Assistant and Diary Coordinator to the Vice-Chancellor, the post holder will be required to provide a first-class professional administrative support service whilst maintaining a high degree of discretion and confidentiality when dealing with highly sensitive information.

The Administrator will have responsibility for administrative support to the Vice-Chancellor. The main aspects of the role are to provide a professional and effective front of house service which reflects positively the work of the Vice-Chancellor's Office. The Administrator will contribute to the processing of financial information to and from the Vice-Chancellor should the need arise and contribute to the development of systems and process to further benefit service developments.

The VC's Office is co-located with the offices of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost and University Secretary and their direct support teams, with whom you will work closely.

Essential Criteria

1. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

2. Good digital skills including experience in using core digital tools including internet, email, digital communication tools, Microsoft 365 applications, digital booking system.

3. Five GCSE's at least Grade C or level four (or equivalent) including English Language and Mathematics (or equivalent experience or qualifications).

4. Post-16 qualification or equivalent experience.

5. Evidence of relevant personal development to maintain skills.

6. Relevant administrative experience in a busy office environment.

7. Demonstrable ability to provide advice and guidance to a range of customers and colleagues.

8. Experience of working on the front line with service delivery, and the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines without compromising on quality.

9. Ability to solve problems as part of a team and resolve straightforward issues.

10. Experience of working in a team.

1. Experience of working with executive level staff.

2. Experience of working in a higher education environment.

3. Experience of working within a large, complex and diverse organisation.

  • Focus on checking stakeholder requirements to ensure the delivery of excellence with the frontline stakeholder experience.
