Managing Director - Ports/Logistics -Tees Works

Posted by Broster Buchanan Ltd.

The redevelopment of Tees Works is the most significant industrial development project in the north east for a generation and is transformational for the region.
This is giving rise to a whole new industrial base on Teesside based on clean energy with a host of international players committed to major scale investments on the site.
Steel River Quay Ltd has been contracted to provide quayside and port-based services to Seah Wind and other future tenants associated with the offshore wind sector from the newly constructed quay on the River Tees. It is anticipated that the quay will be operational within the next few months, although Steel River is already working very closely with Seah Wind and other potential tenants. The company is one of a series of related companies focused on large scale property and land linked developments, and associated site services.
Reporting to the CEO the person will play a key role in taking responsibility for the smooth running and financial performance of all quayside operations and associated activities.
A broad remit will include working face to face with customers, key suppliers including outsourced service providers, and responsibility for a small team of directly employed staff.
The role is site based, and at a detailed level will cover
Leading the business to deliver exceptional service whilst meeting associated financial targets
Participating in Board meetings and playing a key role in the senior leadership team
Development of close working relationships with customers, outsourced service providers, key suppliers and the relevant third parties and authorities
Oversight of all HSE and related issues

Management of operational and financial performance supported by appropriate functions internally.

Helping to establish and monitor KPIs for the operation.

This represents a great opportunity for someone to make a real mark and will suit someone who is already an established General Manager/MD or a candidate moving into the role with a strong background in offshore wind operations.
Strong leadership and people skills will be required, enabling the development of strong relationships with all stakeholders and relevant third parties.
Potential candidates should ideally have operational experience in the port sector, or the field of logistics and supply chain management or indeed other relatable industries

Well developed presentation abilities and emotional intelligence will enable you to influence at Board level and gain the confidence of key stakeholders in the company.
The business is forecast to grow substantially as the Tees Works project matures, and the scope of the role will develop in parallel providing a platform for personal growth and development in a stimulating environment.
The business embraces a very commercial and ultimately success-based culture that could be an excellent environment for those forward looking, ambitious and technically sound individuals.
An excellent salary will be available for the successful candidate.
