Bridging Loan Underwriter

General Purpose:

To support the company's growth objectives by proactively underwriting Bridging loans from enquiry through to completion. This role ensures that all cases are processed in line with company policy, product criteria, and industry standards, contributing to the achievement of departmental and individual performance targets.

Main Duties:

  • Underwriting Management: Oversee the entire process of underwriting Bridging loans, from initial enquiry and offer through to completion, ensuring compliance with all relevant policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge Development: Actively seek advice and guidance from Senior Team members and the Credit Manager to enhance your knowledge and understanding of the underwriting process.
  • Client and Broker Liaison: Collaborate closely with the Credit Department, managing communication with clients, solicitors, and brokers to ensure a smooth and efficient loan completion process.
  • Continuous Improvement: Focus on personal continuous improvement by identifying ways to enhance working methods and underwriting practices.
  • Team Support: Assist the team with workload management and provide cover during holidays or peak periods as required.
  • Record Maintenance: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and system information for all cases under your management.
  • Performance Optimization: Ensure best practices are followed to achieve optimal performance in Bridging loan completions, meeting or exceeding individual and departmental KPIs.
  • Professional Development: Stay informed of legal and industry changes relevant to the role, supporting your ongoing learning and professional development.
  • Broker Relationship Management: Manage relationships with allocated brokers, ensuring clear communication and efficient processing of their cases.
  • Documentation Preparation: Produce valuation instruction letters, instructions to solicitors, and security documents, ensuring compliance with underwriter policy guidelines.
  • Valuation and Asset Management: Instruct and review valuations and asset manager reports for cases under your supervision, liaising with your panel solicitor as necessary.
  • Training and Development: Attend training sessions to keep skills and knowledge up to date.

Person Specification:

  • Communication Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex information to clients, brokers, and team members.
  • Underwriting Experience: Previous experience in underwriting short-term Bridging loans is essential.
  • Self-Motivation: A focused, self-motivated individual with a positive, proactive attitude towards work and problem-solving.
  • Professionalism: A professional and responsible approach to managing tasks and relationships.
  • Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational skills with a keen eye for detail, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in all aspects of the role.
  • Target-Oriented: Ability to work effectively to targets, demonstrating a commitment to meeting KPIs and contributing to the team's success.
  • Relationship Management: Strong customer service and relationship management skills, capable of building and maintaining positive relationships with clients, brokers, and other stakeholders.
