About the role

IT have spent the last 6 years creating a SAM (Software Asset Management) practice. We pride ourselves on having created a centre of excellence for all aspects of a modern practice. Working with our key SAM partner we have instilled in the organisation the necessary disciplines as far as SAM governance is concerned using the latest technology and tools. We have also created a practice and culture of harvesting and re-use in order to ensure we are operating within licence grants and therefore protecting the organisation, as well as optimising what we are using in order to control overall software licence spend, ensuring business requirements are met and benefits are realised.

The next part of the journey is to support the organisations move to a Cloud centric operation.

This is where you come in! We are looking to appoint a Software Asset Manager to help us make this shift, always ensuring the organisation is protected and NFU Mutual avoids any legal pitfalls whilst at the same time optimising what we already have and continuing to drive down the total cost of ownership. The role will be expected to play a pivotal role in this large multiyear transformation programme whilst also continuing to lead the team to deliver on all aspects of the business-as-usual service.

The ideal candidate will possess strong management and leadership skills, capable of overseeing the entire software asset lifecycle. You will be responsible for ensuring compliance, optimizing software usage, and managing vendor relationships. Your ability to lead a team, implement effective asset management strategies, and drive continuous improvement will be crucial to our success. About you

We are looking for an IT Software Asset Manager with exceptional communication, resilience, influence, organisational and teamwork skills to join our organization. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and optimizing our software assets, ensuring compliance, and driving efficiency across the organization. You will work closely with various departments, effectively communicating and negotiating with stakeholders to implement best practices. Your resilience and ability to influence others will be critical in navigating challenges and driving change.

Essential skills include:

  • Strong leadership qualities to manage a team, share knowledge and upskill/coach colleagues.
  • In depth knowledge and experience of software licensing models for the large vendors particularly IBM, Microsoft and SAP. In depth experience of interpreting licensing terms and conditions in contracts.
  • Knowledge of legal matters pertaining to licensing, for example Copyrights, Designs and Patents act and experience of working with Legal Counsel.
  • Experience of dealing with large vendor audits either direct with the vendor or through an audit consultancy (such as KPMG).
  • Proven innovative approach to complex licence issues both with new purchasing requirements and with non-compliance issues.

In depth knowledge of SAM Tooling such as Snow and Flexera would also be highly beneficial within this role.
