Time Recruitment Solutions are currently working with a global business based in Bury, having been established for more than 50 years and having moved to a state of the art facility they are currently transitioning through a busy period where they predict record growth for a third successive year.
Now due to the growth they are looking for an experienced Health & Safety Officer to join the business.
Purpose:
To ensure that the all regulatory and compliance commitments are maintained with health, safety and environmental regulations, legislation and policies and minimise occupational risk in the workplace. Is an ambassador of the positive health & safety culture within the business to drive a safe working environment.
Main Duties:
- Drive a health & safety culture within the working environment to ensure all colleagues adhere to health & safety policies and procedures.
- Develop, implement and monitor the Environmental and Safety Management System, procedures, documentation and audit system.
- Responsible for undertaking EH&S compliance evaluations inspections and audits in line with requirements, co-ordinate outputs and liaise with site management to ensure action are completed.
- Advise on the improvement to ways of working to, continuously improve EH&S standards within the company.
- Identify risks and carry out appropriate risk assessments in all areas. Work with colleagues to encourage a 'near miss reporting' culture.
- Produce regular reports and statistics on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.
- Work with, and alongside, colleagues in a supportive role to increase awareness and develop their confidence of health & safety within their roles.
- Develop and train a team of H&S reps, meeting regularly with them to monitor progression.
- Monitor and investigate accidents/near misses and review statistics to establish underlying causes, identify trends and recommend corrective action where necessary.
- Develop and maintain an up-to-date knowledge of best practice and developments in workplace H&S legislation, procedures and safe systems of work.
- Create and review a company environmental policy.
- Carry out EH&S inductions with all new starters and contractors.
- Ensure appropriate records and statistics are kept and comply with statutory requirements.
- Co-ordinate and manage third party contractors on site in accordance with EH&S and BRC regulations.
Person Specification:
- IOSH managing safely (essential)
- NEBOSH general certificate (essential)
- Level 3 award in education and training (desirable)
- IEMA Certificate in environmental management (desirable)
- Up to date first aid certificate (essential)
- Knowledge of Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work completion
- Accident Investigating
- Broad industry experience
- Experience in the Health & Safety supervision of site activities
- Experience of company environmental responsibilities required
- Computer literate - able to compile reports and develop spreadsheets and create PowerPoint presentations. (word, outlook, excel, etc)
- Excellent attention to detail
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to use own initiative and a proactive attitude
- Excellent time management skills and able to prioritise multiple tasks
