Working Hours: 40 per week
Reports to: General Manager

Our client is seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Accounts Assistant to join their team. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the financial operations of the company, ensuring accuracy in processing invoices, handling payments, and maintaining financial records along with general administration in other areas of the business such as sales and purchasing. Key Responsibilities:

  • Processing invoices: Ensure timely and accurate processing of supplier invoices, expense claims, and payment requests.

Bank reconciliations: Assist with reconciling company bank accounts on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.
Accounts payable and receivable: Support in managing and maintaining both accounts payable and accounts receivable ledgers.
VAT returns: Assist with the preparation and submission of VAT returns in compliance with UK tax regulations.
Payroll support: Assist with payroll processing, ensuring accurate payment of employees' salaries.
Financial record-keeping: Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions in line with company policies and regulations.
Month-end duties: Assist in the preparation of month-end reports, including journal entries and financial data analysis.
General administrative duties: Support the finance/sales & purchasing team with general administrative tasks as required.

Person Specification:
Essential:

  • Previous experience in a similar role, such as Accounts Assistant or Finance Assistant.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, Xero, etc.).
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other MS Office tools.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills, able to work to tight deadlines.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Desirable:

  • AAT qualification or working towards an accounting qualification (CIMA, ACCA, etc.).
  • Knowledge of UK VAT regulations and basic payroll processes.
  • Experience in preparing financial statements and management reports.
