We have an exciting opportunity available for a Senior Risk & Compliance Officer to join one of the world's leading research Institutes at a crucial time in its evolution, and play a definitive role in shaping it for the future. You will join us on a full-time, permanent, and in return, you will receive a competitive salary of £58,250 with benefits, subject to skills and experience.

The Senior Risk & Compliance Officer role:

We're recruiting for a Senior Risk and Compliance Officer whom will be essential in supporting the Crick to make the right choices on risk and compliance. This interesting and varied role will develop our organisational resilience by working across the Crick in delivering day to day management of internal audit, assurance, compliance, risk management and insurance activities.

The Risk and Compliance function reports into the Group Finance Director and works with them to support the Chief Finance Officer and General Counsel in ensuring that the Crick is delivering against our strategic priorities in relation to the below listed critical capabilities:

  • Compliance (where operational responsibility resides with the team)
  • Internal Audit (working alongside our outsourced provider)
  • Insurance
  • Corporate Risk Management

You will be responsible for supporting the Group Finance Director in partnering with key business stakeholders to ensure compliance and adherence to key policies and procedures, day to day liaison with our internal audit partner and insurers and meeting regularly with risk owners to review and manage risks. The role may also entail the planning and execution of in-house audit and assurance activity and provision of training and guidance to promote best practice.

Responsibilities of our Senior Risk & Compliance Officer:

Your duties will include:

  • Oversight of day to day delivery of a range of critical capabilities, essential for the safe running of the Crick including Corporate Risk Management, Compliance, Internal Audit and Insurance.
  • Work closely with the Group Finance Director to inform the organisations related strategy, framework, and approach, for the critical capabilities listed, ensuring that these consistently align with the strategic priorities and objectives of the Institute, and that related resources have the necessary strategic impact.
  • Provide advice and guidance directly to colleagues across the Crick, working with them on the assessment of risk and compliance and in developing recommendations for improvement, in relation to the capabilities listed.
  • Support the organisation in working within a co-ordinated risk, ethics and compliance management framework that promotes and ensures the integration of the Institutes code of conduct into its culture and daily operations.
  • Support the Group Finance Director in creating a community of best practice and embody a culture of risk management across the organization, acting as a key business partner to all teams.
  • Support the outsourced internal audit team with delivery of the annual internal audit program, including scoping and delivery of audit reviews and tracking / coordination of the resolution of identified issues and actions.
  • Delivery of internally directed audit and assurance reviews.
  • Act as the main internal liaison for insurance queries and work with the external broker to secure positive outcomes for the Crick.

Skills and experience we are looking for in our Senior Risk & Compliance Officer:

  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent.
  • Studying for or holding a professional qualification in Finance, Risk Management or Audit.
  • Strong experience of working in a large organisation in at least one of the following areas: Compliance; Internal Audit; Risk Management.
  • Solid understanding and working knowledge of risk, assurance and internal audit.
  • Effective influencer, able to confidently challenge current ways of working, behaviors and attitudes and implement change to best support delivery of corporate objectives and priorities.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders in a clear, concise, and persuasive manner, both verbally and in writing, on complex issues and proposed actions to mitigate risk and issues.
  • A track record of providing succinct, valuable management information, coupled with the ability to translate insights for the understanding of a variety of audiences.
