Merrifield Consultants are partnering with a youth charity to find a Head of Philanthropy who will play a crucial role in leading and enhancing the organisation's relationship fundraising efforts, focusing on trusts & foundations, major donors, and legacies. This position is suitable for a passionate individual who has experience managing fundraising portfolios and has excellent leadership skills.

Salary: £50,000

Location: London (3 days in office)

Contract: Temporary or Permanent, 35 hours per week

Job Responsibilities:

The role will ensure key systems and processes for philanthropy are in place, research new prospects, plan approaches and steward relationships.

Fundraising:

  • Oversee the Philanthropy portfolio, including trusts and statutory funders, major donors, corporates, legacies, and mid-level giving.
  • Managing and grow the fundraising portfolio.
  • Write compelling bids and proposals.
  • Manage and grow a portfolio of prospects capable of giving at a level of £10,000 - £1m+,to deliver high levels of annual income according to agreed targets.
  • Steward existing donors to encourage continued support and identify new donating opportunities.
  • Identify and engage with potential new major donors.
  • Co-ordinate major gift solicitations with senior colleagues and the Board.
  • Report to funders and donors the usage of their gifts.
  • Co-ordinate and enhance the charity's event program.

Line Management:

  • Set objectives for the Philanthropy team, establishing clear performance indicators and annual income targets.
  • Support team members in achieving their goals and establish a strong leadership.

Strategy:

  • Play a leading role in managing and shaping the Philanthropy strategy.
  • Lead the development and implementation of emerging strategies for mid-level and legacy giving, collaborating with the Individual Giving team.
  • Ensure a cohesive fundraising approach that aligns high-value, individual, and legacy giving.

Skills and experience:

  • A passion for arts, youth or education.
  • Ability to form strong relationships both within and outside the organisation.
  • Strong experience within fundraising, with experience in securing large gifts and grants.
  • Experience working with Senior Leadership and board members.
  • Experience forming and managing a strategy with set goals and objectives.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent, collaborative leadership skills.
