Construction Buyer

We are seeking a Construction Buyer to join our dynamic team within a major property business in the Northeast region. This role is crucial for our procurement process, requiring a professional with industry knowledge and negotiation skills to source quality materials, contractors, and suppliers, ensuring competitive pricing and upholding our commitment to excellence in construction.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Establish and maintain a book of quality suppliers for trades, materials, and professional services.
- Prepare, submit, and analyse tenders/documentation to suppliers.
- Negotiate the best price, conditions, and contracts.
- Expedite and schedule supplier materials and services into the developments as required.
- Conduct supplier reviews, monitoring and reporting on supplier delivery and quality performance.
- Identify and lead the generation of savings across the purchase base.
- Create and manage a Purchase Order to Payment system.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience in a Purchasing or Buyer role within the construction sector.
- Established and trusted supplier base for a number of local trades and services.
- Membership of CIPS is preferred.
- Excellent numerical skills and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to summarise and effectively communicate complex information.
- Strong negotiating skills.
- High degree of competence in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
- Good time management with the ability to organise and prioritise work to meet deadlines.
- Aptitude for creative and innovative thinking.
- High degree of integrity as data confidentiality is paramount to this position.
- Ability to work on own initiative and display ethical skills when negotiating.
