Job Title: Head of Finance Systems & Data

Location: London (Hybrid Working)

Role Type: 12 month FTC

Role Overview & Objective:
The Head of Finance Systems & Data manages the Finance Systems and Data team and is the primary contact for Finance to interpret and, where necessary, prioritise Underwriting / Operations /Data Governance / IT / ICOFR changes that might impact Finance processes systems or data, feeding in Finance requirements or resource impact as part of these Other / BAU change.
This role is the business sponsor for the Finance Systems workstream under FTP, also feeding into other workstreams where appropriate / has a systems or data impact.
This role will work with the Finance Leadership Team and senior business partners to ensure smooth operational support of existing processes, and advocate for/enable Finance Systems & Data change deliverables.

Key Responsibilities:
Strategy and Planning:

  • Inputs to and translates organisation vision and Divisional/Functional strategy into operational deliverables and provides tactical leadership and support to managers to achieve positive results for the business in line with strategy
  • Drives business performance through others facilitating effective planning, control and support mechanisms to ensure delivery of the business plan in line with market and shareholder expectations
  • Benchmarking against strategic objectives
  • Delivery of profitable growth of business

Policy, Process and Procedures:

  • Manages team capacity to ensure that it is cost-effective and is matched to the current and future agreed needs of Finance
  • Develops and implements an appropriate governance framework to ensure best practice and compliance with internal and external regulations (ledger/close process, entity specific requirements, centers of excellence) for Systems & Data responsibilities
  • Manages the level of service availability for the broader team to ensure it matches or exceeds the current and future agreed needs of Finance
  • Understand the business processes to be able to translate those into requirements for system architecture

Technical Performance:

  • Lead the development of Systems & Data solutions that enhance delivery of services aligned with industry and regulatory requirements
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives by assessing alignment of current processes and systems to business requirements and recognize opportunities for standardization, increased efficiency, cost reduction and increased quality
  • Partner across operations teams and finance to develop the annual financial goals, objectives, budgets and staffing plans needed to achieve outcomes in the current year
  • Secure resource allocation and provide the necessary delivery support

Requirements & Skills:

  • Specific professional qualifications (and broad business qualifications) at the level of degree or equivalent (ACCA / ACA / CA / CPA Qualified)
  • Significant experience in the insurance industry
  • Understanding of GAAP insurance/reinsurance reporting requirements
  • Extensive experience of Financial accounting, reporting and operations in an Insurer/ Reinsurer
  • Managing relationships with internal business customers at a senior level
  • Managing cross functional teams and matrix management
  • Experience managing qualified accountants
  • Project management/ co-ordination, including managing multiple projects and complex projects to quality, time and budget
  • An entrepreneurial and creative approach to developing new, innovative ideas that will stretch the organization and push the boundaries
  • Bring intellectual curiosity; challenging the status quo and stirring innovative approaches to existing processes and operations
  • Excellent leadership, organisational, relationship, and people-management skills
  • Finance management - including budget management, forecasting and cost analysis
  • Resource and budget management (across functional teams)
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • A proven conceptual and strategic thinker who is capable of distilling, packaging, and presenting complex information in a clear, concise, and compelling manner
  • Strong understanding of underlying needs of the Insurance business
  • Business and financial awareness of the impact of Service Levels and any associated failures
