Position Overview

My client based in St Helens are looking for a Works Manager to join the team on a full time, permanent basis. They that design, manufacture, install, and maintain low, medium and high voltage busbars. They are looking for a Works Manager with experience in managing small teams (10-15 staff) and someone who has an engineering background.

Responsibilities include:

The position will include duties in the following areas:

  • Increasing productivity and efficiency of output of the manufacturing works
  • Monitor and control of productivity in the manufacturing work
  • Management and execution of all manufacturing projects and processes
  • Management of Workshop supervisor and all works within the Workshop
  • Undertaking performance reviews for your team and reporting to Directors on outcomes
  • Liaising with Planning Manager to ensure all Production and Resource is aligned
  • Transfer of Programmes for manufacturing planning to add processes and details required for progress reports
  • Liaising with Project Managers and designers
  • Provide the workshop with accurate and detailed Work Order Cards following drawings and designs
  • Control all Work Order Cards that are issued to the Workshop with control and in the company's best interests
  • Ensuring quality is maintained throughout the manufacturing process via quality systems
  • Control and Inspection of incoming goods
  • Control and Management of Stock Records
  • Liaising with external inspection bodies
  • Control of the asset of the Workshop
  • Control of all Training requirement in a manufacturing capacity
  • Control of all Welding Testing and Procedures
  • Control of Welding Fume and Local extraction regulations
  • Working in accordance with Health, Safety, and Environment to ensure that work complies with all necessary business requirements and procedures
  • Supporting the development of the business into other sectors and being motivated to take on new projects and opportunities
  • Opportunities to work on nuclear and other power stations to project manage and supervise a team of engineers and fitters
  • Opportunities to control site activities during installation and maintenance projects on power stations and other sites
  • Opportunities to manage multi-million-pound projects in the power industry, from conceptual design to installation

Works Manager Position Requirements

  • Experience in a Works Manager or similar position
  • Engineering background
  • Willing to be flexible with hours around the business needs
  • Able to support and manage the team and increase productivity
  • Able to commute to St Helens on a daily basis

Works Manager Position Remuneration

  • £45,000 salary
  • Overtime payable for any extra hours over 38 at a premium rate
  • Travel Expenses of 45p per mile for the first 10,000miles and 25p per mile thereafter
  • Pension plan (company contributes 6%)
  • Welplan insurance
  • 20 days holiday + bank holidays (increasing with service)
  • Working hours Monday to Thursday 08.00- 16.30 and Fridays 08.00-14.00
