Deputy Catering Lead

An opportunity has arisen for a Deputy Catering Lead to work at Gloucestershire's largest comprehensive school with over 200 staff and 1,700 students.

You will assist with providing nutritious, balanced meals following different dietary requirements for both students, staff and visitors as well as carry out administrative tasks including menu planning.

Their outstanding dining centres along with a ‘Pit Stop' Cafe in Sixth Form Centre provide the forum for students to meet and social over food and drink at key points throughout the day. The experience students have whilst in these areas is critical to their perception of the school and their happiness and enjoyment of it.

What you'll do as Deputy Catering Lead:

  • Take responsibility for preparation of hot and cold food and assist with the service of the food in all service areas throughout the school.
  • Help plan daily menus with the Catering Lead, making provisions as appropriate for special food diets (e.g. allergens, gluten free etc), and help order stocks (via on-line and telephone services) accordingly.
  • Develop and progress the catering provision to deliver healthy and high-quality meals that meet nutritional standards and the Healthy food for healthy outcomes DFE food policy
  • Ensure control of portion size, quality and presentation of food being served to students and staff.
  • Ensure sufficient food is available at all times during all services throughout the school day. Minimise wastage and ensuring this does not have a negative impact on the effective operation and profitability of the catering operation.
  • Assist with serving staff and students, using the School's till operation system. Ensure compliance with all fire, licensing, food safety and employment regulations
  • Maintain hygienic standards as laid down by Management and the Food Safety Act 1990, Food Safety (General Food Staff Regulations 1995) and the Food Safety Temperature Control Regulations 1995
  • Ensure health and safety regulations are met.
  • Be available for duties at specified dates on the school calendar for outside functions.
  • Actively contribute to development initiatives to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the service, including new ideas and food policies to support the raising of standards in school and aspects of commercial viability.
  • Generate and interpret sales reports to help with forecasting and stock control Assist the Catering Lead with termly stock taking

We're looking for a Deputy Catering Lead with the following:

  • Relevant education qualifications as school/college
  • Relevant professional catering qualification (NVQ Diploma/BTEC qualifications/HND/Advanced apprenticeship)
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene
  • The ability to use Microsoft Office Packages to include Word and Excel
  • Experience in cooking and food preparation in a high-volume environment
  • Experience of maintaining accurate files and record and ensuring compliance with legislation

In return you will receive a salary of £22,675 - £23,458 per annum

You will be working 37 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 06:00-13:55 with a 30-minute break.
