Interim Finance Manager

Are you a skilled Finance Manager seeking a meaningful role and looking to drive change? Charity People are delighted to be partnering with The Sutton Trust, who are committed to improving social mobility in the UK through education opportunities.

As the Interim Finance Manager, you will be driving efficiencies in key processes. This is a hands-on role that demands a strong understanding of charity accounting, problem-solving skills, and initiative.

Working pattern: Full-time, part-time considered, variable hours (approx. 28-40 hours per week), temporary role (6-12 months) with occasional events/meetings outside normal hours.
Pay: £22.60 up to £25.00 per hour (equivalent to £47,000 up to - £52,000 FTE).
Location: London, ideally 2 office days per week, however there is flexibility with this.

Key responsibilities within this role will be as follows:?

  • Providing the necessary cover for all Finance Officer and Finance Manager responsibilities, including but not limited to, sales and purchase ledger, cash management, transaction recognition, record keeping, month end, payroll and pension scheme administration, Gift Aid, VAT, (cashflow) forecasting and reporting, year end and audit preparation
  • Undertaking ad hoc projects to improve financial processes in terms of control, efficiency and consistency, including for example, review of the current accounting system and facilitating the implementation of a new system, drafting financial policies and supporting their implementation, establishing new forecasting frameworks
  • Keeping up to date with legislation, policies and procedures relevant to the role and the Trust's work
  • Other duties as necessary from time to time

We welcome applications from individuals who have experience in:

  • A hands-on, generalist finance role with strong experience of a wide variety of finance processes including fund accounting
  • Improving financial controls and processes, including producing draft policies and delivering training
  • Implementing a new finance system and/ or using technology or automation to improve efficiencies
  • Setting up and maintaining forecasting templates, including for cashflow purposes
  • Working with non-finance staff to evaluate and improve finance-adjacent processes
  • Working in the not-for-profit sector (desirable)
  • Working with Quickbooks or a similar accounting software (desirable)
  • Working with Salesforce (desirable)

who can demonstrate:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills at all levels
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills with the ability to multi-task
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Confidentiality

and who is:

  • A qualified accountant with post qualification experience, or equivalent demonstrable work experience
