Berneslai Homes has an exciting opportunity for an Housing Coach to join their team based in Barnsley with the ability to work agilely. You will join us on a full-time (37 hours), permanent basis, and in return, you will receive a competitive salary of £29,269 to £32,076 per annum.

The Housing Coach role:? ?

**?**We have an exciting opportunity for a Housing Coach to join our Tenants First team!

Our Housing Coaches redefine the way we support new tenants that need it, you'll provide expert advice and practical assistance, working with tenants to help address often multiple and complex issues which could prevent a tenancy being successful.

This will involve a degree of persistence, and the ability to have difficult conversations and challenge behaviours. ?

Key duties and responsibilities of our Housing Coach:

  • Support eligible applicants to access housing appropriate for their needs and provide support to customers when viewing, signing, and moving into a Berneslai Homes property.
  • Work with and prepare applicants and new tenants to understand the responsibilities involved when taking on and managing a successful tenancy to include finances, tenant / landlord responsibilities, community cohesion etc.
  • Use skills and curiosity to undertake a comprehensive needs and risk assessment of eligible applicants, tenants, and their families in order to inform recommended intervention, implementing holistic, solution focussed support plans.?
  • Provide expert advice on a range of housing related issues including assisting tenants with claiming welfare benefits and appropriate grant applications. Work with our eligible applicants and tenants to identify their life goals, employment skills and aspirations for work / training.
  • Help them to achieve these aspirations, referring to appropriate agencies for help & support.
  • Have the skills and confidence to be able to challenge customer behaviours and address any issues which may prevent a tenancy from being unsuccessful, whilst at the same time empowering tenants to make positive decisions.
  • Monitor eligible introductory tenancies and initiate any actions necessary during the initial four week period until handover to Neighbourhood Officer(s) in accordance with procedures.
  • Identify issues of concern in an appropriate professional manner and report and act upon any incidents that would require further intervention to the appropriate agency, for example safeguarding concerns, anti-social behaviour and ensure any long term support is put in place.
  • Maintain robust and auditable information systems in line with service requirements and have the expertise to write up effective case management notes and performance management.
  • Ensure seamless handover the Neighbourhood Officer at the end of the support period, to include a tenancy sustainability plan.

What we're looking for in our Housing Coach:

  • Level 3 qualification or equivalent and relevant experience.
  • Demonstrate a positive, flexible approach to team working.
  • The ability to communicate with residents and colleagues effectively.
  • Experience of working in social housing.
  • Ability and willingness to respond positively and effectively to change and innovation.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the service.
