Job Opportunity: Transport Manager / Planner

Are you a detail-oriented individual with a knack for multitasking in a fast-paced environment? We are seeking a dynamic Manager or Planner who might be looking to take the next step in their career ladder for our client based in Kent.

This is a permanent role and they are keen to start interviewing as soon as possible!

You will be responsible for a diverse range of tasks, from planning, managing a team, logistics of vehicles and safety as well as a high level of compliance.

  • Full Time - Monday - Friday - 8.30am - 5.30pm (some flex may be available).
  • Office / site based (possibility to become Hybrid further down the line).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive planning for the fleet and staff (approx. 25)
  • Recruit and onboard all new staff in this department.
  • Administration of timesheets and wages for staff in this department.
  • Usage, monitoring, reporting and training on the internal systems used for recording hours, safety checks and compliance.
  • Facilitate the onboarding process for new clients.
  • Liaise with clients via telephone, e-mail and online.
  • Book in safety checks, MOTs and other inspections within strict deadlines.
  • Ensuring work that is required is carried out by specialists in a professional and cost effective way, issuing Purchase Order numbers where required.
  • Keeping logs of training, expiring dates and ensuring booking of upcoming training.
  • Delivery of some internal training for quality purposes.
  • Tendering for new business (private and public tenders).
  • Understanding costs to ensure quotes are competitive and accurate.
  • File Confirmation Statements and Assist with End of Year Returns
  • Handle the admin in regards to Fuel cards, Card readers, Clocking systems, ID badges, CRB Checks, PMIs and inspections.
  • Driving of vehicles during peak periods or in the absence of staff may be required.
  • Good maintenance of the vehicle storage unit and yard area.

Reporting:

  • Create and maintain files in accordance to company policy.
  • Provide internal reporting to Director at set deadlines.
  • Ensure play an important and contributively part of the Management Team.

Skills and Experience:

  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Exceptional people person, have the ability to communicate with a wide variety, adapting your approach depending on the situation.
  • Strong literacy, written communication skills.
  • Be excellent at thinking on your feet, thinking outside the box and staying calm in an emergency.
  • Good numeracy and commercial judgement would be a benefit.
  • Strong computer skills, especially in Microsoft Packages (Excel) would also be a benefit.
  • Previous experience working within a Transportation setting essential.
  • Experience and understanding of EU and UK laws for Driving hours etc... essential.
  • Previous Management or Team Leader experience would be preferred.

Desired Qualifications:

  • CPC Operators Licence holder advantageous but not essential (must be willing to obtain through training)
  • Full UK Drivers Licence.
  • Digital Tacho Card (not essential)
  • Management or Team Leader Qualification (not essential).
