You will join the global oil team, leading a group of upstream oil analysts at BloombergNEF - the world's leading independent provider of analysis, tools, data and research to decision makers advancing the future of energy. Our team of experts, spread across six continents, provides analysis and insight to the largest corporations across utilities and generation, oil & gas, equipment manufacturers, banking and finance, and government.

What's the role?

The successful candidate will join the global oil team, leading a group of analysts researching crude oil exploration and production technologies, company strategies and oil market fundamentals. The upstream oil team lead will need to work seamlessly with the downstream oil, industrial decarbonisation, energy economics, renewable fuels and materials teams to contribute to flagship reports like New Energy Outlook. They will also play a central role in developing BNEF views on the decarbonization of key sectors like oil and gas production. The successful candidate will gain exposure to the complete oil cycle giving them an accelerated learning curve and unparalleled exposure to the oil industry as it evolves.

  • Serve as BNEF's senior voice on upstream and midstream oil market trends
  • Manage, mentor, and grow a team of talented analysts across the world
  • Help shape BNEF's overall business strategy and research agenda across energy and technology space by giving input to management and the commercial teams
  • Write insightful, thought-leading analysis that informs BNEF clients worldwide
  • Contribute and help to edit research produced across oil and renewable fuel topics to ensure it is of extraordinary quality
  • Regularly present BNEF research in public settings, such as conferences and webinars
  • Support business development through client interactions and collaborating with commercial teams

You'll Need To Have:

  • Demonstrable and significant experience in analyzing oil market dynamics gained within a research, analysis, consulting, publishing, trading, energy/utilities, financial or investment environment
  • A commitment to diversity and inclusion, and a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues from a variety of backgrounds
  • Strong understanding of commodity modelling, with experience presenting large and complex datasets in a client-friendly way
  • A track record of thinking critically and developing well-structured and thoughtful analysis by cutting through the noise of data, extracting key patterns, applying skepticism and challenging conventional wisdom
  • Creative and flexible approach to people and project management, with a strong commitment to nurturing a diverse and inclusive team mindset
  • Curiosity and the ability to quickly understand, distill and work with complex topics and to communicate insights to both specialist and non-specialist audiences
  • Rigorous attention to detail and a commitment to high quality work
  • Strong communication skills with a particular focus on writing business English to an immediately publishable standard with the minimum of editing
  • Excellent client-facing skills and enthusiasm to represent the product both internally and externally
  • Advanced and well-developed Excel skills
  • A Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Engineering, Science, Mathematics, Humanities or other relevant subject
  • Minimum six years of relevant experience
