Hyperion Partners are excited to be working on behalf of our client, a dynamic and forward-thinking student accommodation operator, in their search for a talented and experienced General Manager to join their Birmingham team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a results-driven leader with a passion for exceptional customer service and operational excellence within the student housing sector.

The Role

As the General Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of a large-scale student accommodation property, ensuring that all aspects of the residence run smoothly and efficiently. You will be responsible for delivering a first-class student experience, fostering a welcoming and inclusive community, and managing a diverse team of staff to ensure high standards of service and maintenance.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Operational Management: Overseeing all operational aspects of the accommodation, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and legal standards.
  • Team Leadership: Leading, motivating, and developing a team of on-site staff, including reception, maintenance, and housekeeping.
  • Budget & Financial Management: Managing budgets, controlling costs, and ensuring financial targets are met, including occupancy rates.
  • Student Engagement: Creating and maintaining a supportive environment for students, responding to their needs, and handling any issues efficiently.
  • Facilities Management: Ensuring the building and its facilities are maintained to a high standard, with prompt resolution of any maintenance issues.
  • Stakeholder Relations: Liaising with external contractors, service providers, and local authorities as required.

The Candidate

To succeed in this role, you will be a highly organised, proactive individual with strong leadership skills and a deep understanding of the student accommodation sector. You will be commercially aware and capable of balancing the operational demands of the role with a strong focus on delivering an outstanding student experience.

Key requirements:

  • Previous experience in managing student accommodation or a similar hospitality/leisure environment
  • Strong leadership and people management skills
  • Financial acumen with experience managing budgets and driving profitability
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A passion for customer service and community engagement
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations relevant to accommodation management
