This is an exciting opportunity to work within a special needs school environment, supporting children and young adults with a range of needs including Autism, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) issues, and Complex Needs.

Role and Responsibilities:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in the educational and personal development of our students. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Classroom Support: Assist the teacher in delivering tailored lessons and activities that cater to the individual needs of students.
  • One-on-One Assistance: Provide personalized support to students who need additional help, ensuring they are engaged and able to participate fully in classroom activities.
  • Behavioral Support: Implement strategies to manage and support students with behavioral challenges, promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Creative Engagement: Utilize your performing arts background to create and lead engaging activities that encourage self-expression, communication, and social interaction.
  • Communication: Maintain open and effective communication with teachers, parents, and other staff members regarding student progress and any concerns.
  • Resource Preparation: Help prepare educational materials and resources, ensuring they are accessible and suitable for the needs of each student.
  • Supervision: Supervise students during break times, outings, and other school activities, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Professional Development: Participate in ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance your skills and stay informed about best practices in SEN education.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A degree in Performing Arts or a related field.
  • Passion for working with children and young adults with special needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Creative and imaginative, with the ability to engage and inspire students.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude.
  • Experience in a school setting or working with special needs is desirable but not essential.
