General Manager - Developing

About the Role

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Developing General Manager to join our Burton team. You'll have a strong understanding of operations and will drive consistent operational excellence in all activities. Whilst a consumer logistics background would be preferred, your ability to flourish in an environment that is constantly changing is more important - we are looking for someone with the drive, ambition, and capability to grow their career and their knowledge.

In return, you will be supported through a personal development plan to learn the key objectives of a General Manager, including:

  • Practical Experience (understanding management cadence and structure, new business/contract start up, working with the Forum)
  • Stakeholder Management (working effectively with support functions, negotiation skills, effective stock and H&S leadership)
  • Delivering a Project (influencing others, presenting to senior management)
  • Commercial Acumen (writing a business case, exposure to new business bids, financial visibility and management)
  • Cultural Change (UW Philosophy - Leading at the philosophy level - Embedding the systems, how to lead change - TUPE, cost down etc)

As part of your key responsibilities you'll:

  • Manage all aspects of your contract(s), covering inbound and outbound processing, warehouse management, distribution management, internal quality control, returns processing and stock integrity
  • Ensure that all customer SLA and KPIs are met and exceeded and that a continuous improvement programme is rigorously managed through driving a culture of continuous improvement within the Logistics team
  • Work in partnership with the General Manager, to manage the relationships between UL and the customers in order to provide leading industry logistics standards
  • Ensure that all functional areas are delivered above the quality and standards expected by the company
  • Meet and exceed the financial targets as set both by our customers and UL
  • Work with UL management to identify efficiency improvements and change, and work to deliver improvements to both service and cost

About You

We'd love you to have the following skills and experience, but please apply if you think you'd be able to perform well in this role!

  • Experience of leading Inbound and Outbound operations for a large 3PL or in-house function in a high-volume / fast paced environment
  • Knowledge of the latest warehousing and distribution best practices and emerging concepts and solutions from across the logistics industry
  • Experience of coaching and mentoring people – excellent leadership skills
  • Track record of influencing internal people and at all levels to drive change
  • Excellent communication skills - spoken, written, and presenting
  • Appetite to learn more about Industry 4.0 technologies and apply digital solutions to applicable operational areas and processes
