Financial Controller

Our client, an award-winning luxury retailer, is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Qualified Accountant to join their dynamic team. This role is pivotal in supporting the Director of Finance by ensuring robust financial management and providing comprehensive oversight on employee benefits, VAT, duty accounting, and credit card receipts. The ideal candidate will also play a key role in improving processes and systems within the finance function.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Qualification: ACA/ACCA preferred (finalists with a strong exam and career record will also be considered)
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years in industry
  • Skills: Ability to work efficiently under pressure, balancing multiple priorities and demands
  • Attention to Detail: Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail
  • Professionalism: Polished, confident, and professional demeanour, fitting for a luxury retail environment

Key Responsibilities:

Employee Costs and Benefits:

  • Collaborate with the payroll bureau to ensure accurate and timely payment of all employees and payroll taxes.
  • Prepare all end-of-tax-year returns and reporting accurately and on time.
  • Serve as the company administrator for the pension plan.

VAT and Duty:

  • Prepare compliant VAT and duty returns and ensure timely payment of amounts due.

Month and Year-End:

  • Conduct a thorough review and reconciliation of balance sheet and profit and loss accounts.
  • Prepare variance analysis and commentaries.
  • Close off period end and year end in Sage X3 according to company timetables, resolving any errors that arise.

Credit Card Receipts:

  • Perform a detailed review and reconciliation of credit card receipt control accounts to ensure accurate receipt of funds.
  • Ensure the balance sheet is fairly stated and fees are correctly accounted for.
  • Provide commentary and analysis on credit card fees for management accounts.

Annual Audit:

  • Act as the point of contact for the company's external auditors and tax advisor's.
  • Prepare financial statement notes and disclosures.
  • Support the preparation and filing of corporation tax returns with comprehensive analysis.

Additional Duties:

  • Prepare ONS and similar returns other than monthly sales.
  • Lead initiatives to improve processes and systems within the finance department.
  • Undertake other duties as required to support the finance function.
