Our client:

A large public sector organisation, the largest of it's type in the country.

The role:

The primary purpose of this role is to support the Director of Finance in providing Financial Management and Business Partnering services to the organisation and its strategic partners. This includes:

  • Statutory reporting
  • Management accounting
  • Strategic financial planning
  • Investment appraisal
  • Commercial analysis

Key responsibilities also involve leading and managing the Accounts team, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to achieve the organisation's objectives within allocated resources. Additionally, the role focuses on fostering a culture of teamwork and flexibility within the Accounts team.

Specific areas of responsibility will include:

  • Deliver monthly project reports to business units, governance boards, and corporate finance, highlighting risks, issues, and opportunities for informed decision-making.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to maintain accurate financial forecasts and projections, adhering to project and capital accounting methodology and capital strategy for strategic and financial planning.
  • Lead the business case process, ensuring compliance with financial standards, providing information for investment decisions, and exploring options for value for money, with ultimate financial sign-off responsibility.
  • Manage and maintain the fixed asset register for year-end close, ensuring compliance with capital policy and accounting standards.
  • Oversee the Medium Term Capital Plan (MTCP) to align with strategic objectives, prepare budget papers and financial reports, and provide cash flow information for the Director of Finance and CFO.
  • Develop, enforce, and update the capital policy and project-related procedures, ensuring adherence to accounting standards, maintaining consistency, and providing necessary training.

Who we're looking for:

  • CCAB Qualified accountant with significant senior-level experience in complex organizations.
  • In-depth knowledge of corporate finance, accounting principles, laws, and best practices.
  • Proven ability to manage own and team's workload, making informed independent decisions under tight deadlines.
  • Extensive managerial experience providing professional advice and support to Senior Management teams, including the Director of Finance.
  • Experience in motivating and leading large finance teams through periods of change.
  • Proven experience working with and partnering teams outside of core finance, preferably at a leadership level.
  • Strong commercial and analytical skills to analyse complex information, assess options, and provide appropriate advice.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills at all levels, capable of preparing concise yet insightful communications for senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan over short, medium, and long-term timeframes, adjusting plans and resources as required.
  • Experience in leading and managing successful projects.
