Part time Minibus Driver

This is a wonderful role for a part time minibus driver to support a busy school and drive students to and from their homes safely. You will be travelling around Reading and the surround villages. You may also be required to take longer trips for occasional school outings etc.

This post will involve unsupervised contact with children and young people. The School therefore expects from the successful candidate to have excellent communication skills in order to deal with children and young people in a busy School environment.

The successful candidate should expect to undertake the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance process.

Hours of work: Monday to Friday on a split shift basis, 6.30am to 9.00am and then 3.30pm to 6.00pm during term time only, plus staff training days.

The role:

  • Driving School minibuses and other Estates vehicles, as and when required, competently and safely.
  • Primarily safely picking up and dropping off students at school and home.
  • Daily minibus and other Estates vehicles maintenance and safety checks to ensure the vehicle is roadworthy at all times.
  • Correct and timely reports of vehicle faults to the Head of Estates.
  • Maintaining all relevant paperwork, especially driving and vehicle records after each journey
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of the Minibus, particularly at the end of each journey.
  • Ensuring all passengers are aware of health and safety requirements affecting them and that they are compliant (e.g wearing a seatbelt).
  • Any other reasonable task as requested by the Head of Estates, Deputy Estates Manager or Estates Supervisors.
  • Providing additional support to the Estates Team as and when required, which will include general grounds maintenance, setting up for events etc.

Skills required as a minibus driver:

  • Holder of a full clean D1/PCV licence, for at least 3 years
  • Demonstrate excellent attention to detail and be able to deliver first class customer service and service delivery
  • Ideally has a valid first aid qualification (training will be given)
  • A proven record of safe driving skills
  • A working knowledge of health and Safety regulations
  • Good verbal and written communications
  • A high level of professionalism and integrity
  • An enthusiastic team player
  • Able to deal with situations calmly and efficiently
  • A friendly, professional and 'can do' approach
