You will need to have experience of CNST within an NHS organisation within the past 3 years ( it is not necessary to be a midwife to apply)
Job summary
The Head of Governance role is to oversee and take accountability for CNST and to provide leadership to staff across the Maternity services, inclusive of advising the Director of Midwifery and Clinical Director of local and national strategies to support continuous improvement of Governance within the service.
The post holder will lead on the development of the Maternity governance and assurance framework overseeing key work streams for quality assurance, complaints, risk and patient safety, ensuring appropriate training programmes and guidelines are in place to support frontline staff in the management of incidents, associated action plans and clinical quality improvement plans.
This is a pivotal in the leadership and management of the Maternity Governance team, to ensure strong people management including appropriate supervision, health and wellbeing, education and training and team development.
Provide subject matter expertise in the quality assurance of governance arrangements within the service and provide support to ensure clinical teams are aware of, and work to, nationally prescribed best practices standards.
Supervise programmes of patient safety, quality and experience education throughout the service.
In conjunction with other senior colleagues seek to actively manage relationships with regulators, commissioners and other external agencies
Attend and contribute to meetings of relevant groups within the organisation.
Provide timely, high quality reports on behalf the Director of Midwifery and Clinical Director Board for boards, committees, groups and external stakeholders, using statistical information to identify trends and themes, and providing supporting narrative which focuses reports on quality and improvement.
Prepare reports and contribute to internal and external communications related to patient safety, quality improvement and patient experience.
Provide strong, visible governance leadership in partnership with the Head of Patient Safety for Maternity and Head of Quality Assurance for Maternity.
Liaise closely with Senior Leadership Team and operational managers in the implementation of quality and governance and risk management and assurance systems including effective planning cycles to improve safety and quality across the services
You will be required to use your own initiative in the role and may work within periods of limited supervision. You will uphold the values and behaviours of the Trust.
Budget responsibilities
Act as authorised signatory for the governance team within agreed limits.
Monitor governance team budget ensuring effective budget management.
Report monthly position to Head of Midwifery.
Accountable for budget and financial targets within the area of responsibility and support the delivery of quality and efficiency initiatives.
Support the Division in implementing financial recovery plans and business plans where necessary.
To comply with financial processes, standing financial instructions and deadlines. Ensure goods and services are procured following agreed processes and maximise the value of expenditure on contract and catalogue
