Microsoft SQL Server DBA

I am delighted to be support a growing organisation in Newcastle upon Tyne with their search for a Microsoft SQL server DBA to join a growing team.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Wide and inquisitive interest in general technology and ability to turn your hand to many different technical problem.
  • Passionate about the robust nature of the technologies under your ownership and will take pride in delivering productivity, quality, and reliability.
  • A good understanding of ITIL processes, in particular a structured approach to continuous improvement of the production environment.
  • Respect of timelines and an "inbuilt" urgency to resolve issues in a timely way.
  • Great team players with DevOps, Support, QA and Dev colleagues, never playing the "blamegame" when problems arise.
  • Form strong, honest and mutually respectful relationships with the key client, visiting their London office as required.
  • Have the ability to learn new technologies and expand the role and your skills.
  • On-Call is expected once every 4 weeks, overnight/weekend and only for Production issues.
  • Maintain on-premise and Azure SQL databases (upgrades, high availability backup administration, monitoring, optimizations of DB servers, optimizations of SQL/Procedures).
  • Work with Cloud Azure SQL Server, Data Lake and related cloud data storage technologies.
  • Strong MS SQL knowledge with the ability to interrogate data stores and schema, investigate the results, and provide solutions to improve performance.
  • Work with and challenge developers, support and business to improve the use of SQL Server via better schemas, performant stored procedures/views/functions.

This role would be based in Newcastle upon Tyne and would require you to be in office 4 days a week.
